5 Ways to Reduce Stress

5 ways to reduce stress

5 ways to reduce stress

These are anxious times for most people, so I am sharing 5 easy ways to reduce your stress. As always, I’ve included photos of my outfit and shopping details at the bottom of the post.

1. Exercise

Most gyms are now closed, so I know that can be difficult for people who are used to going to the gym regularly.  It can be tough dealing with change. Instead of getting thrown off your normal routine, get your cardio done outside, and do your strength training at home.  You might have to buy some  inexpensive basic equipment, but it will be worth it.  If exercise isn’t already a part of your lifestyle, now is a great time to start. Exercise has been scientifically proven to reduce anxiety because it lowers your stress hormones, promotes improved sleep quality, and boosts confidence.

2. Write it Down

Whether its making a list, or journaling, start writing things down.  Especially for those who aren’t used to working at home, it can be really difficult to stay on task. Make a list of the things you need to get done, in order of priority, and cross them off as you work through it.  Taking fifteen minutes out of your day to journal your thoughts and feelings can also relieve stress. Don’t forget to also include what you’re grateful for!  If you are a creative writer, use the extra time to work on projects you’ve been postponing.

3. Laugh

It’s a great time to get your chuckle on! Since we should all be spending most of our time at home right now, find some funny movies or comedy tv shows to watch with your family. Laughter has been proven to reduce stress, relax muscle tension, and boost your mood and immune system.

4. Don’t Procrastinate

It’s important to prioritize your tasks, and not put things off today that could cause anxiety later. Particularly if you are working from home for the first time or have children to homeschool, it’s easy to lose track of time if you aren’t diligent. Making to-do-lists (see tip #2) can help you remain focused and productive.

5. Be Mindful

Mindfulness, or awareness of being in the present moment, is a great way to reduce stress. Worrying about what could happen tomorrow, or wishing you could go back to the way things were a few weeks ago is a waste of energy and just creates more stress. Focus instead on what you can do today, in this moment. Yoga, meditation, and deep-breathing can help you to be more mindful. Don’t forget to be grateful for all that you do have.

Sending love and light during these trying times,

Holly
